Callum Phillips has been named the Gillette National Youth League player of the year for the 2009/10 season.
The 18 year old West Cumbria half back has had an outstanding season which saw him help his side to the top spot after the regular weekly rounds, before they lifted the Gillette National Youth League title in a thrilling 26-25 success against Leeds Stanningley.
The talented half back has also gone on to represent the England and Great Britain Community Lions sides over the last two seasons, including touring Australia with the Lions in 2009.
West Cumbria coach Craig Barker – who himself took the coach of the year award – was quick to praise his young half back.
“Callum has been great this year and his leadership and enthusiasm has been very evident since the beginning of the season. His attitude in training is spot on and he listens to what he’s told and can put our game plans into action when he’s out on the pitch.”
“He’s definitely got a good future in the game and he’s played a huge part in the team’s success this year. The award has capped perfect season for him.”
The other annual award for “Unsung Hero” was won by Keith Hall from Featherstone Lions.
