What Is Bridging?

The bridging arrangements have been put in place to assist coaches with current Rugby League qualifications to change their existing award to the new UKCC qualification.

In order to allow enough time to transfer to the new system all current coaching qualifications have been extended to 30th June 2009.

Bridging workbooks are now available from the Coach Education department that, when completed, will fill the knowledge gaps between the new and the old awards.   Completion of the workbook is the first stage (T1) of changing to the new award.

The second stage (T2) will be a practical assessment day which will be scheduled, probably around geographical service areas/at your club.

If the bridging arrangements are not fully completed, old style qualifications will expire at the end of June 2009 - the only way of achieving a qualification would then be to enrol and complete a UKCC course through the normal processes.

The total cost of bridging is now £50 due to obtaining further funding from the National Sports Foundation - this is of course limited and available on a "first come first served basis". This funding is only available until December 2008 after which the cost will go back to £100 in total.

The bridging workbook itself involves some reading and the undertaking of certain tasks, coaching planning and a self assessment knowledge test.  On completion of the bridging tasks information should be retained and stored to present as evidence on the assessment day.

You will then be able to progress to the practical and theoretical assessment day which will involve a 30 minute observed practical exercise and a knowledge assessment.  Full details will be available form the Coach Education department once you've completed the Bridging workbook.
